Dr Balakrishna Shetty, Vice-Chancellor, Sri Siddhartha University- Tumakuru, Bangalore, completed his Medical Education (MBBS) from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore with Distinction in many subjects. He later completed his Master’s degree (MD) in Radio Diagnosis from Kasturba Medical College Manipal.
He is the recipient of the National Merit Scholarship and DGHS Scholarship for Higher Studies. He was awarded the Diplomat of National Board in Radiology in 1990. After this, Dr Shetty went to the USA for further studies in Radio Diagnosis.
The University of Texas awarded him the prestigious Paediatric Radiology Fellowship in 1994 and he is one of the very few foreign medical graduates to receive the Fellowship in Body Imaging from Baylor College of Medicine.
As an eminent Radiologist, Dr Shetty has worked in many International hospitals and universities such as Yale University, Connecticut, Texas Children Hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Hospital, St Lukes Episcopal Hospital Houston, Hamad International Hospital, Doha, and Cleveland Clinic, USA.
Dr Shetty is known for developing the MR PET technology for early detection and staging of cancer without radiation.
He has many scientific publications to his credit and is very well known for his guest lectures not only in India but also in the USA, Malaysia and the Middle East.
