All central universities will have compulsory entrance test from 2022-23: UGC

All central universities should admit students to undergraduate courses in view of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) and not Class 12 denotes, the University Grants Commission (UGC) said Monday. This standard rule will come into force from the impending academic year (2022-23).

UGC chairperson, M. Jagadesh Kumar said it will be compulsory for the 45 focal colleges to take on CUET for admission to their college classes. However, for postgraduate admissions, colleges will have the adaptability to utilize CUET scores at this point.

The common test, CUET, for admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate courses, will be conducted in the principal seven day stretch of July by the National Test Agency (NTA).

Jagadesh Kumar said the choice will give equivalent open doors to students from the Northeast and rustic India. “Furthermore, it will assist guardians of underprivileged students as they will not need to pay for sitting at several entrance exams,” Kumar said in an internet based communication with mediapersons.

Nonetheless, he added that some expertise based courses will have pragmatic parts. The course for CUET will be fundamental ideas from the Class 12 CBSE prospectus. The rules for the test will be imparted to colleges, he said.

CUET, an automated test, will be directed in 13 dialects: English, Hindi, Gujarati, Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

In the interim, UGC has excluded global students from CUET. For post-graduate projects, however, a few universities have joined the drive, Kumar added that he trusts that all colleges will at last utilize the test.
