Army Training Command and IIT-Madras to partner for 5G Testbed
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Madras) is going to partner with Army Training Command (ARTRAC) to establish a 5G Testbed at the Military College of Telecommunication at Mhow, Indore. This technology will enable the military to use 5G technology along the borders and for other operational uses.
The MoU was signed by IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti and Lt Gen MU Nair, SM, Commandant, AVSM, Military College of Telecommunication Engineering on behalf of the Army Training Command, Shimla on Monday in the presence of army officials. The partnership will enable faculties, and encourage students and scientists who will undertake research in the 5G communications and the development of military applications.
Under this MoU, prototype development, feasibility studies and consultancy support for 5G-enabled future communications will be provided by IIT-Madras.
Technologies like 5G is of great importance to the armed forces so the officers must familiarize themselves with such developments. The 5G Testbed will be set up at MCTE where the trainees and students can familiarize themselves with technologies used in the 5G system. Bhaskar Ramamurthi the chair professor for the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Madras who also leads the 5G Testbed project said that this is the perfect example of how a 5G Testbed was developed with support from the DoT and will then enable Indian start-ups and other companies to leverage this for other productive purposes.
This collaboration will use AI-based algorithms to enhance the capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces and give momentum to the induction of systems, equipment and devices whilst using a niche technology.
This project will facilitate the exchange of ideas, and promote cooperative and collaborative research to promote the exchange of ideas that facilitate new development and technology.
