CBSE & Microsoft Partner to Introduce Coding and Data Science to Schools
The development is seen as a step towards introducing new-age skills as envisaged under the government’s NEP 2020
The CBSE has collaborated with Microsoft to introduce Coding for Class VI-VIII and Data Science curriculum for Classes VIII-XII as new skilling subjects in the 2021-2022 academic session.
According to the CBSE, “Microsoft has designed supplementary handbooks in both coding and data science aligned with NCERT patterns and structures, and cover real-life examples aimed at building exposure to the ethical dimensions; exposure to Microsoft MakeCode, an open-source platform that will enable students to learn better in a gamified manner across all discipline s including Mathematics, Languages and Social Sciences while it builds the foundation for AI-based applications of data science”.
Remarking on how this collaboration furthers the objective of the government’s NEP to bring new-age skills into India’s education, Union Minister of Education Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal tweeted “Under NEP 2020, we promised to introduce coding and data science in schools. Today, I’m happy to see CBSE fulfilling the promise right in the session of the year 2021 itself. In association with Microsoft, the CBSE is empowering India’s future generations with new-age skills”.
Through the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the government aims to bring innovation and future-ready skills into India’s education sector. The policy is seen as a revolutionary step towards transforming India’s education.
